RV Trip to the High Mountains Day 14 - October 5, 2018 Amarillo to Spring |
||||||||||||||
Our final day of the trip started hot and sultry leaving no doubt we were back in Texas. I forewent the usual photos of the RV because the park wasn't, in any way, photogenic. However, the spot was level, the staff was superb, and the WiFi and hook-ups were first class. I wouldn't go there to stay, but it's hard to beat as an overnight rest stop.
Our first and only event this day was a quick stop at Cadillac Ranch on the west side of town. Chel and I have driven by here many times, but never stopped due lack of time on the grueling cross-country trips to and from God's Country. So, with a bit of time to spare this day, we stopped.
It is... interesting.

The longest part of the return trip is the run down 45 from DFW. It's slow close to home, yet so danged far away...

We stopped in Willis, Texas to top off the fuel and propane tanks and dump the waste tanks before returning the RV the following morning.

Upon returning to the house and assuring the cats that we still love them, we spent a few hours unpacking and cleaning the RV. A lot of hard work from some very weary travelers went into that project. At the end of it, I washed off all the mud in the wheel wells we acquired on the trip up to St. Elmo. That good Colorado dirt sat on the driveway for weeks until the next big rain sadly washed it away.
The next morning George and I took the RV back to Humble to turn it in. Then Chel and I had to go to a Drum & Bugle Corps rehearsal, despite being quite worn out. When we go home that night... man... we passed out HARD.
As I said on Day 1, our mission on this epic 2 week trip was to make memories. From the length and breadth of this report and the 1,619 photos it contains, I think I can safely state: Mission Accomplished.
