RV Trip to the High Mountains Day 8 - September 29, 2018 Silverton - Durango - On the Animas with Grandma & Grandpa |
||||||||||||||
This was a fun, easy day. The decision was made to relocate down to Durango. Relocation also made it significantly easier to get to the Depot for the D&S ride on Day 9. If we'd stayed in Silverton, we would have had to leave before 7 AM to get to Durango in time to catch the train. In addition, Grandma & Grandpa were planning to drive all the way up from Rico to see us this day. So, being in Durango saved them 4 hours of driving and gave Noah lots of extra time with them.
So, while everyone else slowly got going that morning and packed up so we could move the RV, Daddy grabbed the camera and did a walking tour of Silverton Yard in the cool morning air at 9,318'.

It was cool, quiet, and peaceful. The sky was blue and clear. I love Silverton.

The Silver Summit RV Park is pretty nice. I'd definitely stay there again. It was, by far, the absolute DARKEST location we stayed this trip. Silverton emits very little light pollution and the mountains block out the rest. We could very clearly see the arm of the Milky Way.

The following photos aren't anything special. Just the state of the yard on this day. Really just a photo-documentary of the place.

Before heading down to Durango, Michele wanted another shot at the shopping. With no schedule and little else to do, we had a rare moment of no pressure and she was able to indulge her feminine whims.
I own a Scotty painting that once hung in The Hotel in Chama. Barbara Hogan was kind enough to sell it to me.

In less than 24 hours Noah would be riding the train. He was pumped.

Farewell to Silverton... for now.

After exploring the play ground and kicking a ball with Grandma & Grandpa, it was time to get down to business: tossing rocks in the Animas River.

That afternoon we arrived at United Campground on the north side of town. Though the spots are bit tight, it's a fantastic park with a neat stream flowing through and a great view of the railroad.
