RV Trip to the High Mountains Day 6 - September 27, 2018 Chama - Durango - Silverton |

We got a late start this day. Our objectives were 1) get to Silverton before dark, 2) visit Treasure Falls, 3) get supplies in Durango. We got it all done.
I regretted leaving the Rio Chama RV Park, despite the anticipation for the remainder of the trip. Rio Chama is FANTASTIC! We will definitely be back down the road.

I caught Extra "453" East crossing the river just after dawn. If I remember correctly, we watched Train 216 depart from Terrace Ave before getting breakfast at Boxcar Cafe. Then, we hit the road for Durango. A pit stop was made at the Chevron station on 64 for fuel and propane.

One of the planned highlights of the trip was Treasure Falls. However, due to the lack of rainfall this summer, there was no Treasure Falls! Everyone was sorely disappointed.

We stopped at the Wal-mart in Durango for supplies. We also got more fuel and aired up the tires. After "Wally world" we made the requisite stop at the yard for a look around. We were several hours too early to see the returning trains. The signs were put up by citizens that support the railroad and understand the economic viability it brings to the region. The line was shut down for several months due to a wildfire and a washout. The liberal morons didn't want it to re-open. Some people are just too stupid to reason with.

At long last... Silverton.
That night Noah and I walked outside in the total darkness of 9,800' and saw the band of the Milky Way along with millions of stars. He didn't fully understand it all, but he was impressed.
