The original Rusk Depot was located close to the center of town and is
no longer standing. The Depot in use today was
completed in February 1977 by the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department about 3 miles west of downtown Rusk.
It stands at 430 feet above sea level and is located at Mile Post zero
point five. It is constructed out of beautiful native stone. In addition
to a ticketing booth and souvenir area, the Depot has a 60-seat theater
and houses the railroad’s administrative offices.”
“Prior to the new depot, the passengers were loaded at the camping
shelter in the park, near the Wye. Trains turned on the Wye in Palestine
and returned to Rusk without stopping until the depot there was
completed in October 1977
